Removing eucalyptus to make room for native growth

On this property, several eucalyptus trees were growing close to buildings, with native vegetation already established beneath them. The brief was to take the eucalyptus down and favour the native growth that was already there.

A change in what the property would support

The aim was not simply to clear every tree from the site. Native species were already growing below the eucalyptus, and the work was intended to give that existing vegetation the space to develop.

The eucalyptus were also close to buildings. Concerns about storm damage and fire formed part of the reason for their removal, alongside the preference for the native growth beneath them.

The photographs show the arborist working on the eucalyptus with climbing equipment and ropes, supported by people on the ground. The view of the whole site also shows the relationship between the trees, the slope and the nearby building.

This is the practical side of tree removal: a climber at height, a ground team and attention to the surroundings. The work has to be understood in the context of the property, not just the size of a trunk.

Keeping the native growth in view

The eucalyptus were taken down in favour of the native species already growing below. Giving that existing vegetation room was the guiding objective of the project.

For this job, tree removal formed part of a wider decision about how the property should be managed. Knowing which growth was to be retained was as important to the brief as identifying the trees to be taken down.
